May 2026: Zero Carbon Charge & Air-Motion Roasters Partnering in New First-in-the-World Off-Grid Project.

The 19th & 20th of May 2026, sees Zero Carbon Charge and Air-Motion Roasters Partnering in a new and First-in-the-World Off-Grid Sustainable Transport Solution Project, across South Africa.

The Zero Carbon Charge project is a South African initiative developing the country’s first nationwide network of fully Off-Grid, Solar-Powered, ultra-fast charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs). Founded to support South Africa’s transition to low-carbon transport, the project plans to place charging stations roughly every 150 km along major national roads, using solar energy and battery storage instead of relying on the National Energy Grid. ...

The initiative aims to reduce “range anxiety,” enable long-distance EV and electric truck travel, stimulate rural economic development, and cut transport emissions while improving energy resilience during load-shedding. Backed by investments including R100 million from the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), and has 120 sites already allocated for this project along the key freight corridors such as the N3 and N1 highways.

In line with the Zero Carbon, Off-Grid, Solar Powered concept, Air-Motion Roasters was invited to join this project due to the Futurist Technology of their roasters being all electric, no use of fossil fuels as an energy source, therefore no combustion and no carbon emissions, and then the ability to run on Solar Energy was the bonus. Each of the 120 Stations will house its own AMR Roaster in order to firstly eliminate the need to transport coffee around the country and secondly provide freshly roasted coffee in each of the Charge Station Stores.
